Victor leaned against the door in a valiant effort to keep it closed and glared at Chase, panting. “I hate your parents,” he said in between gasps. “I hate them a lot.”
Chase added his weight to the door, wiping sweat from his forehead. “Join the club.”
“What kind of evil overlords build toasters with AI?” Victor demanded, grinding his teeth as the door behind him rattled with the force of the blows coming from the other side. “Toasters, Chase.”
The blond turned his head to look at Victor. There was a long moment of silence, then he started laughing. There was a slightly hysterical edge to it, and Victor very clearly didn’t appreciate that Chase had come down with a fit of the giggles. “It-” Chase gasped, nearly doubling over. “It wants to make you it’s bride, dude!”
“Yeah, Chase,” Victor said, his tone completely devoid of any kind of happiness, “that’s real hilarious. When you ignore the whole ‘trying to violate me with cables’ thing.”
Chase’s bout of the giggles finally subsided, and he put his full weight back against the door. “This’ll be a lot funnier once we get rid of the toaster.”
Victor closed his eyes, mouthing a silent prayer before he spoke to Chase again. “This will never, ever be funny.”
